Standard Horizon GX1150B Standard Eclipse DSC+ VHF Radio - Black This Radio Rocks

This Radio Rocks, It's a bit overkill for our 17' bowrider, but I wanted a good radio that would just work. I have this wired to our CP180 chart plotter and all the GPS integration works great!

I hope I never have to use it to send a mayday, but I am confident that it will work exactly as planned if I do. The audio is clear and the speaker is nice and loud!

My biggest complaint is that the in-dash mounting kit is sold separately and it only comes with the bracket mount. We boat in some areas where I don't trust people and wanted to mount this in the dash to make it a little harder to steal.
Good solid VHF, (What's this?) My old SH VHF died after several years of great service.
I wanted to replace it with a good solid unit, without too many bells and whistles.
This VHF fits the bill exactly. It is small, compact and attractive. It has external speaker jack (which I need for my boat), and channel controls on the Mic.
Have done several radio checks and all confirm that I am coming in 5x5 (strong and crystal clear).
Great product, very affordable, would definitely recommend it.

  • Scan and Dual Watch functions
  • Microphone with channel change, H/L, and 16/9 buttons
  • Class D Digital Select Calling
  • Pushbuttons for channel changing
  • Large Alphanumeric display

The Eclipse DSC+ is an affordable ITU Class D VHF radio, ultra compact, and designed with a sturdy die-cast chassis, making this full-functioning 25 Watt radio the perfect choice for serious power and sail boaters alike. The ECLIPSE DSC+ features a microphone with channel UP/DOWN, 16/9 and H/L keys. The microphone also features Clear Voice Noise Reduction Technology, eliminating unwanted background noises, like engines and wind, during transmission, ensuring clear communications. The advanced design of the Eclipse DSC+ allows DSC calls to be received even when listening to other communications, as it has a separate DSC receiver.

Garmin GPSMAP 78 2.6-Inch Marine GPS Navigator and Worldwide Chartplotter Marine Garmin

    Simple, accurate, (What's this?)
OMG This thing is awesome!, (What's this?) I've owned several handheld GPS over the years. This thing finds satellite's and locks in about 10 seconds......in my house. My other handheld which was also a garmin would only find satellites outside only on a clear day when no trees were within sight. OK I'm exagerating. There could be one or two trees near but not too near. This 78sc sreen is awesome also. You can see it from any angle, in the sun, with sunglasses on. I LOVE THIS THING. It's simple to use. I'd buy it again. If anyone gives negative feedback on this thing they are in need of help. Serious help.
Marine Garmin, (What's this?) It's a Garmin, It's great. Brand new. Came in box. Arrived quickly. Love that it floats if for some reason you drop it in the water. Very sturdy.
This was a needed upgrade., (What's this?) This unit replaced my Magellan GPS 3000 which had replace an older Loran C unit. The older unit was not a Chartplotter and had great difficulty in acquiring satellites when on shore. The 78SC acquires satellites within seconds of turning it on as long as you are outdoors. Although it did a pretty good job acquiring them even indoors most of the time.

It is nice to have a Chart to give you a visual of the area you are in. I always was concerned that the older unit I had would guide me right into a breakwall in poor visual conditions, if I didn't have an old route map to rely on. The built in map is sufficient for my purposes as I only need to rely on it for fishing purposes on Lake Erie which is part of the coastal maps included. I seldom if ever need to rely on it for poor visual conditions and I am only guiding a 16' aluminum boat fishing fairly familiar areas. The general need is to be able to find structure for fishing and being able to mark spots where I have had previous success. It is good to be able to see where sandbars and old wrecks are located in an open lake.

All its features function accurately and it wasn't too difficult to learn and use. After one trip out with it I am ready to trust it completely.
Love it for Sailing!, I got my Garmin 78sc a couple of weeks ago, to use not only on the water (Chesapeake Bay), but for hiking and geocaching. By now I've sailed for 3 days,(about 15 hours total run-time), and the alkaline batteries are about half gone according to the meter, so I'm fairly satisfied with the battery life. I haven't tried NiMH rechargeables yet.

I was concerned the unit was going to be huge (it's intentionally large to give internal air space for water flotation ability), but it's not too big or heavy. It was smaller than I was expecting it to be.
Save your money, (What's this?) Disply is pixeled, not as clear as my four year old gpsmap 76csx.
Disply isn't half as bright as my 76.
When battery level is at half strength, unit will turn off back light and other features which makes unit very difficult to read.
Battery campartment is a pain in the ass to get into and now you must change batteries twice as often as with the 76 because of the low battery feature.

Garmin dropped the ball on this unit.
The future is now, (What's this?) I've had some experience with the older GPS 76 and found it very hard to see in bright sunlight out on the water.

So, I was a bit nervous in ordering the GPS 78sc without being able to kick the tires. It arrived yesterday and I've spent about 6 hours total getting used to it. There were several concerns that I, at first, felt like I had bought a pig in a poke -- BUT, after a couple of phone calls talking to the Garmin technical people, all my issues were resolved.

This device is simply incredible with its accuracy and features for such a small package. I rely heavily on the MOB (man overboard) screen for use in setting upwind marks at specific bearings and distances from the committee boat in Race Committee work for Offshore classes. The color screen is very easily seen in the brightest conditions. The track log and reciprocal bearing back to the committee boat are highlighted in different colors and make for a superb display.

One of the reasons the color screen is so good (and they don't mention it anywhere) is that the lense window is polaroid. I stumbled onto that by accident today on a hike while wearing my polaroid sunglasses. I noticed that when turning the device at a right angle the image suddenly disappeared. That only happens when you are viewing a polaroid lense from another polaroid lense.

Now that I am familiar with the 78sc, my ONLY complaint is that the on-line Operation Manual is woefully inadequate for anything other than a basic introduction. However, all of your technical questions (and I am sure you will have some0 will be answered by their Customer Service department. Unlike many other companies, you won't have to wait more than a minute or so before getting through to a tech specialist. Pretty impressive.

Let me give you an example of how the Operation Manual suffers. Nothing in the on-line literature advertising the 78sc explains the setup capabilities of the compass feature. It is factory set to show a compass rose instead of degrees.
Garmin GPSMAP 78S, (What's this?) If you are reading this, then you are doing what I did, trying to decide it this is the GPS for you, right? I will tell you up front, this one of the biggest pieces of junk I have ever owned in my life. It is crap... This is my fifth Garmin and it is the worst, by far.
So, why did I buy it and why do I still have it?
My first Garmin was a GPS 40, then I moved up to the GPS 12, then I moved up to the Vista HCx. The first two were pretty impressive and still work, but became out of date as things improved in the GPS world. The Vista worked fine, until I started taking it canoeing.
Map colors NOT customizable, (What's this?) I have happily owned a GPSMAP 76CS and was looking forward to owning the 78S "upgrade". I am returning it and writing this review for one reason. The map colors are not customizable. I called Garmin support who confirmed this. The daytime map color scheme is light gray back roads, on a dusky green background (using City Navigator maps, don't know if that makes a difference).

I am a long distance cyclist and need to be able to actually SEE the back roads on the map screen. The gray on green is unreadable under optimal light and is impossible in sunlight.

The 76cs, and the 76csx, have an option "daytime color scheme" to adjust the map background colors. Someone at Garmin decided to drop this option and in my opinion this is a fatal flaw.
A good step forward but Garmin is not a customer support giant by any means., (What's this?) I've had the Garmin GPSMAP 78sc now for over a year and have found it to be a big step forward in technology in terms of acquiring satellites. It quickly acquires satellites under heavy timber and up against steep mountain faces which my old GPS76 never acquired. Technology rating - 5 stars. However, I find Garmin to be extremely frustrating when it comes to customer support/intuitive use of the unit. Garmin forces users to use Garmin's Base Camp software to interface with the PC and they make it very hard to export the data to other, very common, GPS data platforms, i.e. Google Earth, ArcGis, etc etc. Same holds true for importing, what should be easily shared, items such as icons/symbols.

Bazooka BT1224DVC BT Series 12-Inch 4-Ohm Dual Passive Tube

BANG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, (What's this?) This sub is def an awesome sub woofer it has great sound with deep resonating tone and if installed right no vibration. I have a 1400 watt Pyle amplifier hooked up to it and sounds awesome.
Bazooka 12in dual passive, (What's this?) this thing iz nasty! I originally purchased this Bazooka tube to add some good bass and got way more than I expected. My amp is a Mtx Jackhammer Series Jh600, defo recomendo.
    Awesome buy!, (What's this?)
In regards to the BASS TUBES, I use to have one of these 10inch self-powered tubes in my car. My buddy have 3, 10inch in his truck. My bass tube end up putting out more bass then the 3 he had in his truck with the same setup. That just shows you just one of these tubes can sounds like 2 or more speakers. I just bought 2 of these 12inch dual passives' that I'm going to run at 600 watts each, I'm looking forward to hear what these things can do in comparison to a box setup in my car.
its a great buy must buy if you allready have a amp, (What's this?) its a great buy buy it if your smaller speakers died i had a 8" bazooka, and after two years it blew but i used it heavyly so yea anyway if your looking for a new speaker and u have a amp aready must buy it sounds great even though its a 12" it fit descent in the trunk of my Honda prelude.
good but no amp, (What's this?)
Excellent bass enhancer for factory systems!, (What's this?) I was looking for a subwoofer system to enhance my already decent factory system. I didn't want to go through the trouble of completely changing my entire sound system just to enhance my bass response. I had researched several bass systems from different companies. Since I have family I. Didn't want to secrafice my trunk space as well. The BT1224DVC gives me exactly what I need; great bass & trunk space! I listen to a lot of reggae & old school soul music & it performs wonderfully for me! If you're looking to enhance your factory sytem, buy this model! If you're looking for people to hear you 2 blocks away, buy 2 subs! By the way, you need an external amp for this model.

  • High-efficiency woofer designed and reinforced for use in Bass Tubes

The BT1214 This 600 watt gorilla is also super efficient, thanks to the Bass Tubes enclosure. Recommended power for the BT1224DVC is any amplifier 150 watts and up. Highly efficent, customized woofers specifically designed and reinforced for use in the Bazooka Bass Tubes.

Kenwood KMR-330 Marine CD Receiver with Satellite Ready Front AUX Input

Great deck, (What's this?) I bought this deck for my Triton TR-20 and cannot be happier. It powers a pair of Infinity 6X9's under the cockpit dashes. It replaced a JVC that only lasted 2yrs but to stick up for JVC a little it was an automotive deck that I bought on clearence! Any hoe, the power this deck has is sufficient and the sound quality is top notch just as expected from a Kenwood. The controls are a little funky but you get use to them really quick.
3 bad radios in 90 days, (What's this?) This radio was complete junk. One was bad out of the box. The other two lasted about thirty days. Hooked on tronics may have the worst customer support I have ever dealt with and will not buy anything from them again.
excellent, (What's this?) I put this unit in my sailboat with a pair of Polk atrium speakers. It sounds great! I use my xm radio through it. However I could not figure how to hook up the xm radio so I have it hooked up to Auxilary.
kenwood marine stereo, (What's this?) Nice unit. Easy install. Also purchased wired remote unit. My bass boat and I love it. Sounds great.
Marine radio, (What's this?) Radio easy to install and has enough power to operate 4 speakers. Works with IPOD interface good but hard to scan songs. Goes by artist not random easy.
Great Device, (What's this?) Bought as a replacement unit, perfect fit and the wiring was a unplug/plug in change out. works perfectly and has great sound, is a bit tricky to set up and change settings. Am very pleased.

  • Plays CDs, CD-Rs, and CD-RW discs, including discs loaded with MP3, WMA, and AAC music files
  • CD player with built-in MOSFET amplifier (22 watts RMS/50 peak x 4 channels)
  • Compatible with Kenwood's iPod adapter, Bluetooth adapter, HD Radio tuner, satellite radio

PYLE PLMR24 3.5-Inch 200 Watt 3-Way Weather Proof Mini Box Speaker System (White) (Pair)

Additional feedback, (What's this?) As I said in my original review, I just wanted some simple speakers and an amplifier for my patio next summer. Some tunes while I man my grille! I did a test of my new system while the weather was nice, and I am SO happy with the sound.
Good For The Money, Just needed something on the boat to add some highs to 6.5 speakers already mounted on the sides of center console. These work great for that. Mounted these facing the pilot and got what I wanted, can hear the stereo under way now. They're cheap and do the job, would have been nice if hardware was stainless, but what do ya want at these prices. I would recommend them.
Outdoor speakers, (What's this?) Purchased these to put on our patio wall, sound it good and we can angle them so as not blast straight out to the neighbors yet we hear them while in the pool.
Pyle Speakers & stereo wire, (What's this?) Both Speakers and stereo wires arrived separately and on time. I've installed the speakers. Good value. They work great. Thanks.
small speakers with a nice sound and great price, (What's this?) I replaced two larger spearkers with these smaller speakers on the boat. They are easy to install, nice looking, nice sounding and the price was right.
Sound is great, (What's this?) Sound quality is great. After attaching this to my existing receiver and hearing the audio, it did not disappoint me. For the price and sound quality, I'll give this a 5 star.
Best little speakers for the money, bar none!, Due to some remodeling, I needed to replace some of my Advent outdoor speakers - they are great speakers, I've had them for years, but mine are black and I now needed white). I came across these Pyle speakers and for the money, way less than the Advents, I had to give them a try.
    Price was great!, (What's this?)
    speakers, (What's this?)
Rusting!, (What's this?) The speakers sound decent. I run them on my fishing boat and am not overly concerned with audio quality as long as I have a little bit of tunes to keep myself entertained. Like others have mentioned, the adjustment screw on the sides are useless. The main problem I have with these speakers is after only 3 trips in the water the grills have begun to rust. Would not recommend for use on a boat.

Humminbird PiranhaMAX 150 4-Inch Waterproof Fishfinder

Chinese made junk "Lemon", Bought at Wallmart for over $200.00 Worked great for 1 year 3 months,I think i used it 6 times. then one day it would not work. Thats right 3 months after the warranty ran out this product failed.I sent it in to get it fixed and they will charge you a set fee of 80.00 some dollers to fix whatever is wrong with your unit. I would not recommend Humminbird products to anyone.
Humminbird Piranh max 170 fish finder, (What's this?) I had the good fortune to find this fish finder on Amazon as well as being rated by consumer reports as a good product. So I ordered it and recived it in short time. enstalled it easyly on my used boat. we used it while fishing at our favorite fishing spot Cove resort with great success no triploids but nice rainbow.
So thank you Amazon for having a great product and Great staff to process and ship the order.
piranha max 170, (What's this?) this is a great little product ,easy to use very accurate on depth through my kayak hull, its wintertime so not alot of fish in the river right now, but it did put me on a couple of them
Humminbird Piranha MAX 170, (What's this?) A good product at a reasonable price. This is my second one as I fitted my first to a sea kayak. I did only need to purchase a transducer but found the complete new package was only a few pounds dearer when purchasing through Amazon from the USA as opposed to using a UK dealer.
Excellent and Reasonably-Priced Product, (What's this?) I use this fishfinder in the tropics exclusively, for saltwater fishing. It works great even with 50cm waves and up to 7-8kts trolling. Direct sunlight readability is good, and the battery lasted more than 48hrs on my last fishing trip. The only downside is that the US version doesn't have the ability to switch to metric units. Totally satisfied with this product.
Humminbird piranhamax 160, (What's this?) I bought the fish finder from Amazon for a great price considering I live in New Zealand $141.00 NZD including postage as a posed to $299.00 NZD from a local boat shop. It was purchased for my kayak, and installation was quite simple, using blue lithium grease to set the transducer on the inside of the hull. Took her out this morning to test it,and it worked faultlessly. The only reason I have given it 4 stars is because it only measures in feet and Fahrenheit with no option to change it to metres and degrees, not really a problem as I can get used to it, the other thing is the size of the transducer plug is to big to be able to use any other cable fitting other than the one supplied, which on a kayak isn't ideal, but testing it today no water got in, but then there was no surf, so if I sink I'll let you know lol. All in All A very good buy and well worth the money.
Great product, (What's this?) I'm very happy with this purchase and is doing everything I need it to do. I have set it up on my boat and has helped my located depths that I am trying to fish at.
PirahnaMax 170, (What's this?) To start with it comes as an easy install, although you still need a battery. At first glance it is compact smart and easy to use. The screen is grey scale, has the regular screen adjustments and a backlight. Coming from a country that uses metric it what still a good buy. The fish ID feature works well, as soon as I dropped my line fish were biting and on. Go humminbird.
WHAT PRODUCT ARE U ALL REVIEWING???!!!, (What's this?) The sounder/fish finder I purchased ( 190C ) had no SUCTION CUP...??? It is a simple, SINGLE, beam transducer, color sounder. It is an easy install and the sounder works great. I highly recommend that you buy the in hull transducer mounting kit if you are installing this in a kayak.
Buying this was very difficult, (What's this?) I did my homework and read every review twice, just to try to find out WHAT came with the unit.
I puchased the 160 dual beam unit, and did not get a suction cup mounting.
